Chief Calista Akudee Duru boasts green thumbs as well as a generous spirit. Though she could comfortably retire from her successful career, her passion for agriculture called her to convert a hobby into a commercial venture – now benefiting the wider community.
Duru has built an impressive catfish farm from scratch, with over 1,000 fish thriving under her care. She tapped experts to craft a closed pond ecosystem housing various catfish species. Her daily oversight ensures prime water quality and feeding for faster growth cycles. Beyond supplying regional markets, the farm provides employment for youths. The Chief also directs a bustling plantain plantation covering many hectares. While profitability was not the main motivation, Chief Duru's aptitude for business management means both her catfish and plantain ventures will ultimately be self-sustaining. This leaves surplus earnings to funnel back into regional economic and social causes close to her heart.
